Inclement weather impacts your RV’s roof as nothing else can. Weather phenomena can harm your vehicle’s roof directly and indirectly. Gusts of wind and torrential rains can structurally damage your RV’s roof on their own—not to mention denting from hail.

Bad weather can also indirectly cause RV roof damage. Many RV users camp their vehicles underneath canopies of trees in heavily wooded areas. While this makes for a lovely getaway, falling tree limbs and debris from thunderstorms can damage your RV roof.

Poor Road Conditions

Roads can be fickle things. While the US highway system is expansive and well-maintained, there are stretches of roads where your RV will encounter gaping potholes, construction-torn asphalt, and uneven surfaces. Each of these road conditions will shake your RV as you drive, causing small cracks and tears to form in your RV’s roof.

Aging and Weathering

Aging and weathering impacts all outdoor vehicles that go uncovered. Garages and car coves are essential tools to avoid the damage incurred by time. However, RVs are typically too tall to go underneath a garage or awning, so aging and weathering occur quicker, especially on its roof.

Consistent, prolonged sunlight exposure will wear down the seals on your RV’s roof, making it less and less effective in keeping the elements out of your living space. Depending on your location, precipitation will make its mark as well. Pounding rain consistently soaking and then drying on the roof will wear down its paint.
